The Glass Museum with 2,500 pieces is one of the largest private collections of glass in the world. Of special note are the Roman archaeological series, ancient Spanish glass, the collections of opalescent glass and enamels, as well as glass from central Europe  

The Wine Museum is located in the mediaeval cellars of the former monastery of Carmelite friars. It offers a fascinating tour that reveals the secrets of one of the finest wines in Peralada.

The Castell de PeraladaInternational Music Festival is held every year in July and August in the precincts of the Castillo de Peralada.

Dedicated mainly to lyric music, there are twenty-five performances of opera, ballet, concerts, recitals and chamber music, all given by artistes and ensembles of international prestige. The Perelada Music Festival is one of the most important summer cultural events in Spain.

The tradition of wine in Peralada dates back to the 14 th century, when the Carmelite friars of the Convent del Carme made their own wine. These days, Vinos y Cavas Castillo Perelada has consolidated its position as one of the finest and most traditional wineries in Spain. It has also contributed towards a spectacular revival in the Ampurdán region, which has the longest history of wine-making in Spain.

Outstanding among the wines produced by the company are the Gran Claustro and Don Miguel Mateu, both meeting the conditions for an “excellent” quality wine. Also outstanding is the Gran Claustro special reserve cava, produced with all the nobility imposed by such an ancient tradition, aged in the centuries-old cellars of the Convent del Carme. The Champagne method is rigorously and professionally adhered to, with just the addition of the charisma that characterises the Castillo Perelada.

Peralada, a town in the Ampurdán region in Northern Catalonia, is undoubtedly unique in the richness of its culture, history and natural resources. Dating back one thousand years, it was one of the main capitals of Ampurdán throughout the Middle Ages and the birthplace of the chronicler, Ramon Muntaner in 1265. Several monuments and buildings still remain from this age of splendour.

It is worth taking a walk around the old town to visit the museum complex of the Centre de Turisme Cultural Sant Domènec and the Convent del Carme, which contains the library and the Castillo de Peralada museums.

The Castillo de Peralada is mediaeval in origin and has a remarkable Renaissance façade and neo-gothic elements. Its distinctive feature are the twin towers which have long signified its enduring position in the artistic and cultural landscape in Peralada. It was built by the Viscounts of Rocabertí, who were elevated to the status of Counts in 1599. There is mention of the family name of the Counts of Rocabertí in El Quijote as being one of the oldest and greatest lineages in Catalonia.

In one wing of the castle, there is a prestigious casino with tables for French roulette, American roulette, poker, black-jack, boule and punto-banco, as well as slot machines. In summer, the Castillo de Peralada hosts the Castell de Peralada International Music Festival. During the Christmas period, the castle gardens also present the nativity scene, the Pessebre Vivent de Peralada, one of the longest traditions and best-attended events in the town.
